Business Acumen Training Courses | Improve Financial Decisions
Help your people to think more like a business owner, and make better commercial & financial decisions.
Commercial, Financial & Business Acumen Training
We work with a whole variety of people and roles that benefit from improving their commercial, financial & business acumen.
Our courses can either run in isolation, or as part of a broader programme. Courses are typically held in one day, use a single facilitator and are high energy and interactive.
Our commercial, financial & business acumen training courses focus on the key principles of running and managing a business. They help delegates to see the world through the eyes of a business owner. We provide practical tools that can be applied immediately within the organisation, either as an individual or a group.
So Is Business Acumen A Hard Skill?
For some yes, and for others less so. Business and financial acumen is one of those areas where often some people have ‘natural aptitude’ to understand more of the numerical and the technical, whereas others don’t.
Both ‘types’ of people can build their knowledge and confidence with a range of business and financial acumen components, which is a defined competency in most contexts.
Often employers make huge assumptions about this range of topics, believing that because people can sell, or manage customer or team member relationships that they can automatically relate what they are doing in a commercial and financial context.
This is simply not true, and many sales people, customer relationship managers and leaders are able to perform so much better in their core role if they have a much broader understanding of the commercial and financial world in which their organisation operates.
What We Focus On
Key focus areas are completely bespoke. Below is an illustration of typical knowledge and skill areas that a workshop would focus on and seek to transform for all delegates.
- Commercial thinking and its application in any business, any role
- A useful profit model and how this relates to each delegate’s role
- Financial terminology and calculations
- Commercial forces and how these affect businesses
- P&L management, cash flow and balance sheets
- Interpreting financial and numerical data and understanding key messages
- The principles of ROI

Company Feedback Survey
I often hear myself say “Great opportunity to use your PDW skills” – or, in shorthand, just “PDW!” This has been the most effective training I have done in my career – and to call it training downplays it.
Particularly good feedback from the team on all the practise sessions as this really brings the theory to life – and a great team helping to do that.
Good structure, very well facilitated and the combination of project and personal skills training meant that it was easy to see how the personal skills could be practically applied.
